Synoptic Outline
HEART’s control system optimises the building’s overall energy performance, enhancing synergies between different subcomponents and operating according to an integrated logic. The system efficiently manages the different energy flows, produced locally by the PV plant or supplied by the grid, and allocates them to immediate demand, thermal or electric storage, or feeding in the grid (for PV), according to timing, convenience, and opportunity.
In this perspective, the building’s user evolves from a consumer into a prosumer. Including thermal storage means that PV electricity can be stored in form of thermal energy. The battery pack allows the management peaks of electrical power, reducing demand on the grid and allowing for distributed energy storage.
