1. Massimiliano Manfren (Eng, PhD, Lecturer)

Manfren Massimiliano is a PhD Engineer and Lecturer in the Sustainable Energy Research Group (SERG), Civil, Maritime and Environmental Engineering & Science Unit of the University of Southampton (UK). His present research interest focuses on analytics and predictive models for building and urban energy management, design optimization, model verification, validation and calibration under uncertainty. He graduated in Civil Engineering at the University of Padua in 2006. Later, his research within the group “Innovative technologies to manage energy in the construction industry” at Politecnico di Milano during the three-year PhD program (2007-2010) was funded by the Italian Ministry of Environment and focused on urban scale policies and technologies integration for high efficiency multi-energy systems. His research aims to establish a convergence between scientific disciplinary knowledge in building physics and building services engineering, energy efficiency and recent advances in machine learning and operation research techniques, through an integrated use of simulation, optimization, statistics and data mining.

The Sustainable Energy Research Group (SERG) of the University of Southampton will contribute to the implementation of WP4 of the project, participating in tasks T4.1, T4.2, T4.3, T4.4 and T4.5. SERG has extensive experience in collecting and analysing a range of energy production and demand data and this expertise underpins modelling of energy demand in buildings for making energy users aware of their behaviour and studying optimal strategies for encouraging the construction industry to carry out energy-conscious refurbishment, aimed at reducing carbon dioxide emissions.
T4.1 involves the definition of DSS/BEMS data and modeling logic, analysis of options for the reduction of computational effort, analysis of the use of linked open data standards. T4.2 involves the analysis of the monitoring infrastructure and optimization with respect to the data and modeling logic of DSS/BEMS. T4.3 involves virtual building model definition, based on T4.1 and T4.2 activities. T4.4 involves integration and automation of data analysis workflows. Finally, T4.5 Analysis of the possible reconfiguration of the data analytical processes of the DSS/BEMS platform.
